ABSTRACT
Workplace violence remains a significant threat to health care personnel, contributing to staff injury, burnout, turnover, and reduced quality of care. Nurse managers play a critical role in addressing this challenge through the implementation of effective de-escalation programs. This article reviews the prevalence and impact of workplace violence, outlines evidence-based de-escalation models and strategies, and discusses methods for recognizing and responding to escalating behavior. The role of technologies, such as staff duress systems, in supporting rapid response and enhancing safety is also examined. Comprehensive approaches that combine training, protocols, technology, and postincident support can help create safer care environments.
