Perception of another person’s pain: a cross-cultural approach

ABSTRACT

In France, the transcultural approach has been developed over more than thirty years in order to better understand and care for migrants and their children. Pain, although universal, has many variations, expressions, and expectations. Based on this example of pain, which is part of any relationship between patient and caregiver, whether somatic or psychological in origin, it appears that the diversity of representations, feelings, and expectations must be taken into account in order to better understand, relieve, and help migrants and their children in a multicultural world.
