Self-stigma as a barrier to help-seeking: Suicide attempt in a patient with pedoteleiophilia, depression and developmental disorder

Summarise with AI (MRCPsych/FRANZCP)

Psychiatr Prax. 2026 Jan;53(1):35-37. doi: 10.1055/a-2753-3825. Epub 2026 Jan 21.

ABSTRACT

A 48-year-old man sought professional help following a suicide attempt very belatedly and severely injured. High shame associated with undiagnosed developmental disorder and pedoteleiophilia initially aggravated suicidality and impeded contact to the help system. Over the course of treatment, a strong therapeutic relationship was established, enabling referral to outpatient psychiatric care and the Dunkelfeld therapy and support project for individuals with pedophilic tendencies.
